Leeds United faithful name their player of the season as Rodon, Rutter and Summerville miss out — Leeds Live 17/4/24

Nearly 1,500 readers took part in our player of the season poll as Leeds United look to secure an instant Premier League return

It is awards season and Leeds United remain in hot pursuit of the ultimate prize: promotion back to the Premier League. More than 48 hours have passed since the Whites swept up at the EFL awards night in London.

Academy graduate Archie Gray bagged the EFL Championship Apprentice and Championship Young Player of the Year, in addition to Crysencio Summerville winning Championship Player of the Year. Summerville, United's 18-goal top-scorer, was also selected alongside teammates Ethan Ampadu and Georginio Rutter in the team of the year.

"I like the fans, the atmosphere, the intensity, everything really, as young kid I had a dream to play in the Premier League and in England," said Summerville, who pipped Sammie Szmodics and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the award.

"We always believed [we could chase down Leicester] otherwise we wouldn't be in the position we are now, we have to keep doing what we do and we have three more finals to reach our plan [of achieving promotion]."

LeedsLive recently conducted a poll asking supporters to vote for their player of the season. Some strong candidates featured in the shortlist, including Summerville, Gray, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Georginio Rutter.

Nearly 1,500 fans took part in the survey, with Ampadu named the winner after picking up almost a third of the votes. The Wales international, a £7m summer buy from Chelsea, has established himself as a key cog in the Whites machine.

Joe Rodon, Ampadu's defensive partner in crime for club and country, picked up 358 votes and Summerville finished third with 324. Gray ended up fourth, Rutter fifth and Gruev sixth.

Ethan Ampadu - 461

Joe Rodon - 358

Crysencio Summerville - 324

Archie Gray - 201

Georginio Rutter - 95

Ilia Gruev - 42
