CHRIS ARMAS JOINS AS ASSISTANT HEAD COACH - Leedsunited.com 25/1/23

Leeds United are pleased to confirm the appointment of Chris Armas as our new assistant head coach, subject to obtaining a work permit.

The 50-year-old, former USA international adds further experience to Jesse Marsch’s backroom staff.

Armas enjoyed a successful playing career in Major League Soccer, with LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, playing alongside Marsch at the latter.

After his retirement from playing, Armas served as assistant to Marsch from 2015-2018 at New York Red Bulls, before becoming head coach after Marsch departed for RB Leipzig.

Armas spent two years in charge of New York Red Bulls, whilst also had managerial experience with fellow MLS outfit Toronto FC.

Last season, Armas spent time as an assistant at another Premier League club, working under Ralf Rangnick.

He now links up with Marsch once again in West Yorkshire and is expected to be in the dugout for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup round four tie at Accrington Stanley.

On the appointment, Leeds United head coach Marsch said: “I’m delighted to welcome Chris to Leeds United.

“He will be a fantastic addition to the staff, he brings a wealth of experience from across the world and having worked closely with him previously, I am sure he will help us to improve every day.”

Director of football Victor Orta added: “We always have constant ideas to improve the team around Jesse and with Chris it is a perfect fit, they have both worked together in the past and he has experience of working in the Premier League.

“Chris was one of the best ever players in the history of the United States and his determination and skills will add value to our club and we are really happy he has joined us.”
