JESSE MARSCH: I FEEL LIKE WE WILL HAVE LEARNED FROM TODAY - Leedsunited.com 1/5/22

Head coach gives his thoughts on Man City clash.

Jesse Marsch gave his thoughts to the media, after seeing his side defeated at home against Manchester City.

The Premier League’s table-topping side showed a clinical touch at Elland Road to score four goal and take the three points, but the scoreline didn’t tell the whole story of the game.

The Whites had chances throughout and for large parts played well against the visitors and Marsch feels the performance pleased the supporters, despite the result.

“Our fans were outstanding, I think the best performance of the night was our fans,” the head coach explained. The reason they were so into the match is because they could see we played well. Of course, 4-0 doesn’t feel good, but I don’t think it’s a 4-0 match. I think we had some big chances at different moments and we contained a lot of the things they tried to do and a lot of their really good players, in a lot of moments in the match. On another day, if we can find a way to get a goal at 1-0 or 2-0, we can make the game a little bit more interesting. Before the match we said we wanted a good performance, and that’s what we have.”

Leeds United now go into the final four fixtures in a battle down the wrong end of the table, but the head coach remains optimistic given recent performances and results.

Marsch said: “I feel like this scoreline was worse than I wanted, but the performance was better than I wanted. In that sense, I feel like we will have learned from today and we’ll be able to feel like we’re moving forward and making progress. Against the next opponents we can play like this, play more confidently and go after games with and without the ball, better.”
