Tuesday evening's Carabao Cup victory at Fulham capped the perfect day for Leeds United winger Dan James - after becoming a dad to a baby boy.

The winger's girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday lunchtime as the couple became parents and James spent a few hours in Manchester following the birth of their child.

The 23-year-old then flew to Craven Cottage by helicopter and played a starring a role as Marcelo Bielsa's Whites progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on penalties.

After a goalless draw, Leeds held their nerve to win 6-5 on spot kicks, James strutting up to take his penalty after a memorable day and scoring in style.

The Whites are closing in on a deal for a centre-back as Jack Harrison closes on a move to Everton. By Callum O'Connell Everton have been in touch with Leeds United again over a potential deal to sign Wilfried Gnonto, but there is no truth to reports claiming a fee has been agreed, according to Shamoon Hafez. The BBC Sports reporter shared via his personal Twitter account that, despite reports in Italy claiming a £38.5million deal had been agreed between the two clubs, the Italian’s valuation has not yet been met.
