Leedsunited.com 13/6/21 FOUR LEEDS UNITED GREATS COMMEMORATED IN STUNNING MURAL

Artist Nicolas Dixon paints colourful tribute facing Pudsey Market.

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust has brought the next Leeds United themed mural to life, thanks to the design and vision of artist Nicolas Dixon.

The new mural is part of the ongoing project by LUST to celebrate the rich history of Leeds United all around across the city through different types of themed art.

In a special tribute to four Leeds United greats that have recently passed away, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Trevor Cherry and Peter Lorimer, Leeds based artist Nicolas Dixon, creator of the ‘Bielsa The Redeemer’ Mural in Wortley Leeds, has designed and painted a standout mural using his inspiring biomorphic shapes and vivid colours.

The 33 ft mural painted on the side of Avanta Care Ltd building, directly overlooks Pudsey Market, and local stall holders are hoping that the new mural will attract more visitors and give an extra boost to trade.

The mural has been funded by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust fans mural fund, the Scandinavian supporters club - LUSCOS and two local businesses Avanta Care Ltd and Baker Harding.

Nicolas Dixon said: “It’s been quite emotional working on this mural, especially as I’m a lifelong Leeds fan. I’m proud to be able to combine my two passions in art and Leeds United. I’m looking forward to everyone visiting it and I hope it continues to spread some more joy around the city.”

The mural has been backed by local market traders throughout the planning process and working with local business ImageCo - the plan is to continue the LUFC around the market by giving stall holder vinyl stickers for the side of their stalls to hopefully drive people and more trade.

Leeds United Supporters’ Trust said: “The mural has been a long time coming and it has taken a lot of planning and time to get it to this stage – thanks to Nicolas’ tenacity and passion. We really hope this mural, which faces Pudsey Market, will bring lots of new faces and custom to boost local trade.

“We’re really pleased to have worked in partnership with our friends at LUSCOS, our Scandinavian Supporters club who have supported financially, as well as the fans mural fund, and the two local businesses Avanta Care Ltd and Baker Harding.”

Anders Palm, Leeds United Supporters Club of Scandinavia (LUSCOS) said “We wanted to honour our latest lost legends, especially Norman and Peter who were very close to us and good friends to many Scandinavians. We are delighted to support the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust in their mural project to honour these great Leeds United legends.”

Due to overwhelming feedback, the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust are launching a page on their website next week, dedicate to all the LUFC murals around the city – www.lufctrust.com. The page has maps, detailed information behind each one. “Tyler has continued to improve during his time at the club and still at a young age, I believe we have a lot more to see come from him in the future.” “I’m excited to see the fans back in the stadium next season, I’ll be working hard to make sure I’m at my best and to show them even more than I have.”
