I Love Taking Free-Kicks, At Catania They Wouldn’t Let Me! Leeds United Set-Piece Hero Giuseppe Bellusci

Giuseppe Bellusci cannot disguise his delight at the sumptuous free-kick he scored last night to help Leeds United to a 3-1 victory away at Bournemouth in the Championship.
The Italian defender unleashed an unstoppable strike to put Leeds 2-1 ahead and on course for victory at Dean Court. It is, he admits, something he often tries in training.
However, Bellusci is only now finding himself allowed to take free-kicks, with former club Catania boasting a set-piece specialist in Francesco Lodi in recent seasons, who assumed free-kick duties.
"In training I enjoy trying them. I've always liked to take free-kicks, but at Catania I could never do it because the team had a specialist such as Lodi", Bellusci told Gianlucadimarzio.com.
Did Bellusci learn from Lodi? The defender says no, insisting that he has developed his own style which, while not as technically accurate or able to be deployed close to the goal, is nevertheless effective.
"No [I didn't try to copy him], we have a different style.
"He is much more accurate and can even take free-kicks from close to the goal. I, however, need a much longer distance."
Bellusci also revealed his delight in celebrating in front of the Leeds' faithful at Dean Court, who were delirious at the goal.
"I was obliged to go and celebrate below 2,000 Leeds fans who came to support the team despite it being 600km away", the Italian added, impressed at the dedication of the Whites supporters.
