Leeds United taking over Chelsea scheme in search for best young talents — Sport Witness 5/3/25

Leeds United will ‘take over’ from Chelsea as the host for the talent hunt in Sweden this year.

That’s according to Hallandsposten, who cover the work done by Chelsea in 2024 and the Whites’ plans for this year.

The newspaper claims the Halmstad edition of the Chelsea Football School took place last summer. This was held at Vapnö IF’s facilities, and 100 young talents took part in this event.

Vapnö were hoping for Chelsea to return this year, but that won’t happen. Instead, Leeds will ‘take over’ from the Premier League club.

Hallandsposten say the Championship club are hoping for more young talents to take part in the upcoming edition.

Vapnö vice-president Ola Svensson gave his take on Chelsea’s decision to withdraw and CIFA’s agreement with Leeds.

“CIFA [Cosmo International Football Academy], which held the course for Chelsea, has entered into a new agreement, so Chelsea have left and they are now concentrating on Leeds instead,” he said.

“They probably have their own reasons, but it’s clear that it will be profitable to be able to do the course and Chelsea is not the cheapest partner. That’s how I understood it.”

Daniel Farke’s side are currently leading the Championship table and are in the driving seat to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Vapnö first-team coaches Marcelo Farias and Andreas Jedraski visited the Whites’ training facilities in January. Svensson is thrilled to be receiving Leeds United later this year.

‘Leeds is a club on the rise, so it’s fun. They are leading the Championship and are on their way back to the Premier League, as it looks, and have entered into a partnership with Red Bull and all that. So, it could be a nice club to follow in the future,” Svensson explained.

The report claims five young talents who attended the camp last year got opportunities to travel to England for further trials. Svensson isn’t aware of the outcome of those trips.

“We’re not allowed to know. We don’t even know who the five are, CIFA keep that to themselves,” he added.

“But there was one from Scandinavia who got a professional contract, as far as I know, from the courses that took place here. But where it came from, I don’t know.”
