Leeds United delaying permanent sale to July 1, PSR profit could now follow — Leeds All Over 25/6/24

Leeds United are set to sell Marc Roca permanently to Real
Betis this summer, but the deal is now being held back until his loan deal
concludes on June 30.
Daniel Farke’s pre-season preparations are no doubt
formulating with less than a week remaining until the squad are back in at
Thorp Arch at the start of July.
Some players won’t be reporting back due to international
commitments, while some won’t be present because outbound transfers are
imminent.
Reports from Spain revealed a surprising agreement was in
place between Leeds and Real Betis over the transfer of Marc Roca.
Holding a loan clause after Leeds lost in the playoff final,
Roca and the La Liga side are keen on bypassing that deal and seeing him tied
down long-term with a permanent contract.
A fee around €5million (£4.23million) is agreed between the
two sides, which is a reduced sum from the £10million the Whites paid for him
in 2022 from Bayern Munich.
The Athletic have now shared that the deal is still
progressing as expected, but is not likely to be announced before the
Spaniard’s first loan deal expires.
That deal concludes on June 30, this Sunday, and then Roca
will be set to sign a permanent deal at the beginning of next week from July 1
onwards.
While there’s no reason for this stated in the piece, it
does appear to be a PSR related decision from Leeds, given the low sum they’re
receiving for Roca.
At £4.23million, Roca would be leaving below book value
(£5million) if the deal was sanctioned this week, but the new accounting period
from July 1 onwards should see his book value drop again due to the
amortisation of his four-year contract.
Therefore, from Monday, Roca will be worth £2.5million on
Leeds’ PSR calculations, rendering this sale as a solid profit all of a sudden,
something that ties in with YEP reports that claimed the club are happy not to
report a loss on this sale.

Should this be the case for Leeds registering profit for
Roca, it’s a very shrewd move to free up funds for next season’s signings.
It does baffle me that we’ve only been able to sell a
top-performing midfielder at the prime of his abilities for less than half we
signed him for, though.
Having said that, if it goes down as profit on PSR or even
just not a loss, we’re on the right track for sure.
