Leeds United and Roma hit impasse over transfer deal for international defender — Leeds Live 7/6/24

Leeds United defender Diego Llorente is set to return to Elland Road this summer, having been out on loan at Roma since January 2023

What the future holds for Diego Llorente remains unclear. The Leeds United defender has been out on loan at Roma since January 2023.

The Spanish international has played 50 times for the Serie A side, including 29 outings last term. But the 30-year-old is due to return to Elland Road this summer following the conclusion of his latest loan spell.

Reports in Italy suggest Roma want to sign Llorente on loan again. It has been claimed that Llorente is "pushing" hard to get a permanent deal over the line. Talks are said to be ongoing between the parties.

United may look to move Llorente on a permanent transfer after missing out on a Premier League return, according to Corriere dello Sport. A €5 million price tag has been mooted.

Llorente, who has been on the Whites' books since 2020, still has two years left to run on his Elland Road contract. He recently wrote on social media: "It’s time to look at what is ahead and achieve balance. We cannot be happy because we have a team to be more committed and we are always trying to achieve great goals.

“However, we have overcome difficult moments, left everything on the field. We are fought and suffered. Thank you for your incredible support. The days of disconnection, rest begin… and wait with excitement.”

United are expected to try and shift on a host of players to raise transfer funds and ease their financial concerns.
