Leeds United braced for official approach as three-year contract readied for £18m man — Leeds Live 28/6/24
Leeds United's forgotten man has spent the past 18 months away from the club
Leeds United could be in a position to finally cut ties with
Diego Llorente in the next few weeks with reports in Spain suggesting AS Roma
are now readying a three-year contract with the player. There have been
suggestions so far this summer that Roma were hesitant regarding signing the
30-year-old, with the Italian club preferring instead to look at the
possibility of another one-year loan option.
However, according to Italian media outlet Siamo La Roma,
the Serie A club are now putting together the details of a lengthy contract
offer that would see the Spanish international stay at the club until the
latter stages of his career. Llorente is understood to have made it clear to
Leeds that he has no intentions of returning to Elland Road this summer, with
it yet to be established if the player will report for pre-season training.
Llorente and Leeds will hope a deal can be concluded before
he has to return to training, but the exact details of an approach to Leeds are
still to be made clear. The Italian media have suggested Roma value Llorente at
around £2.5m, which would represent a substantial loss for Leeds on the £18m
they paid in the summer of 2020.
