Daniel Farke has already made Leeds United transfer feelings very clear on Joe Rodon — Leeds Live 5/6/24

Leeds United have not given up hope of re-signing Joe Rodon ahead of the 2024/25 season but could face competition for his signature from Premier League new boys Southampton

Defensive reinforcements will be high on the agenda for Leeds United when the transfer window opens next week. The Whites are down on numbers at the back following Luke Ayling's departure and Joe Rodon heading back to Tottenham after his stellar loan spell.

There are also big question marks surrounding the futures of Jamie Shackleton, Liam Cooper and Sam Byram. The trio's present contracts run out at the end of the month. United have yet to finalise their retained list.

Supporters would dearly love to see the Whites to re-sign Rodon ahead of the 2024/25 season. The Wales international produced a series of outstanding performances in their march to Wembley.

Rodon, who made 50 appearances across all competitions, formed a strong partnership at the heart of their rearguard with Ethan Ampadu. His no-nonsense style of play and excellent reading of the game endeared himself to the United faithful.

It has been reported that Southampton, who beat the Whites in the Championship play-off last month, are eyeing up a move for Rodon. Tottenham may look to cash in on the centre-back, with transfer fee of between £12m and £15m mooted for the player.

United chairman Paraag Marathe has stated there will be transfer funds available for Daniel Farke to bolster the squad but has made it clear that player sales will be required to help balance the books. Crysencio Summerville, the Championship’s Player of the Year, Archie Gray and Wilfried Gnonto are all likely to be the subject of strong transfer interest.

Speaking back in January, Farke said United were working in the "background" on the possibility of signing Rodon on a permanent basis. He told the media: "There is no doubt we are more than happy with Joe. He is growing into this club more and more, a leader role, you see how much it means to him to wear this white shirt.

“He is just happy to be here. He is crucial. We are more than happy. We would like him to stay for a bit longer, but right now it is not an urgent topic. We're a bit depending on what the other parties think about this topic. We'll definitely try behind the scenes to do our stuff. You know how much I like and value Joe and his importance for the team."
