Leeds United have asked about Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alex
Nubel as they anticipate offers for Illan Meslier.
German media report that the 26-year-old shotstopper is set
to leave the Bundesliga giants imminently, and Leeds would be keen to bring him
to Yorkshire as they prepare for the challenge of the Championship.
They will have to fight off German side Stuttgart for the
26-year-old Nubel's services, but Leeds are thought to be favourites for
offering a permanent transfer option for around €8m (£6.8m), instead of another
loan deal.
Nubel has won plaudits for his performances while on loan at
Ligue 1 Monaco over the past two seasons, but with Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer
among Bayern Munich's ranks, he is unlikely to make his way into his parent
team.
A decision is thought to be on the cards within the next few
days, before the start of Stuttgart's training camp.
Elsewhere, striker Rodrigo has completed his £3m move to
Qatari side Al Rayyan.
Leeds signed Rodrigo on a four-year deal from Valencia in
2020, and he cost £26m at the time. He score 28 goals for the club across three
years, 12 of those last term, when he was top scorer for the Yorkshire side.
However, he was unlikely to stay once Premier League
relegation was confirmed, and Leeds will have to chalk his sale down as a
significant financial loss despite having just one year left on his contract at
Elland Road.
Leeds prepare to begin their tilt at the second-tier
Championship early next month. Their opening league fixture is a home match
against Cardiff City on August 6, followed by a home tie in the League Cup
against Shrewsbury three days later.
