Daniel Farke makes offer to ex-Leeds United defender Sam Byram - MOT Leeds News 16/7/23

Right-back Sam Bryam is with Leeds United after being
offered a chance to train with his former club, according to the Mail on
Sunday.
The newspaper reports (16 July, page 97) that following Bryam’s
release from Norwich City [Norwich City], Farke offered the chance to his
former player to maintain his fitness with his new team.
Farke coached current free agent Bryam while at Norwich City
as the 29-year-old seeks a new club.
Return on the cards?
Bryam has been up and down between the Premier League and
the Championship his whole career, beginning with Leeds in the Championship.
Perhaps a return to his academy club is on the cards after
reports that Leeds have offered Byram a trial ahead of a potential contract
offer [Football Insider].
His familiarity with Farke would be an added bonus after the
pair’s time with Norwich, so if he does re-sign he may be integrated into the
squad with relative ease.
However, Bryam’s injury record would be of some concern. His
21-month absence from action and 20 injections following a hamstring injury saw
him fearing retirement, so the right-back would not come into the club as a
reliable asset.
Furthermore, Byram only made 15 appearances for the Canaries
last season and just 15 more in the season before. In fact, he’s not played
more than 50% of matches in a season since the 2014/15 Championship season with
Leeds.
So a full campaign of tough Championship football may be
beyond his capabilities, but perhaps he could be brought in as an experienced
head and leader in the dressing room
Despite his injury woes and struggles with game time,
Bryam’s 1.75 blocks per 90 (98th percentile) and 6.50 progressive passes per 90
(97th percentile) [FBRef] show him to be a solid defender and an adept
progressing of play down the flanks.
On a free transfer and relatively low wages compared to the
Premier League, Bryam may be a shrewd coup for Leeds as they begin a new
chapter under Farke.
