Leeds United are keen to kick off their summer transfer
window with a bang as reports indicate that manager Daniel Farke is gunning for
Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu. The Welshman was once touted as a future star,
and although things have not quite worked out at Stamford Bridge, his
outstanding World Cup performance will live long in the memory.
It's now six years since Chelsea snapped up Ampadu from
Exeter City, having made his senior debut as a 15-year-old. Loan spells at RB
Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia yielded mixed results, and he is
yet to nail down a spot in the Blues' first team.
The 22-year-old, who can play at centre-back or as a
defensive midfielder, already has 44 international caps for Wales on his CV.
One appearance in particular stood out at last year's World Cup, when he was
labelled his nation's 'best player' in a 1-1 draw with the USA.
According to the Evening Standard, Leeds hope to capitalise
on Ampadu's uncertain future after submitting an offer to Chelsea.
The bid concerns a permanent transfer, and Leeds are the
only club to have lodged an official proposal thus far. Chelsea are believed to
value the versatile youngster at £12million.
Such a figure may be tricky for the Whites to reach after
their relegation to the second tier. And the pursuit may be complicated further
by a range of rival suitors, including clubs in the Premier League and Serie A.
