Leeds United are “assessing” Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara
as the Championship club look to return to the Premier League at the first time
of asking this season.
That’s according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who provide
an update on the Finland international midfielder, 27, in a report surrounding
Chelsea talent Ethan Ampadu.
According to the Post, Leeds United are closing in on a
permanent move for Chelsea defender Ampadu as those links to Glen Kamara and
Rangers continue to persist.
The report claims that Daniel Farke does “need to bolster”
the middle of the park in Yorkshire and that Glen Kamara is a legitimate
option, although they face stiff competition for the Rangers star.
This comes amid earlier reports which had suggested that
Leeds United were now leading the chase for the 52-cap Finnish international
star.
There have also been claims from the 4th Official that Leeds
United have agreed personal terms with Glen Kamara ahead of an initial £4m deal
which includes a 10% sell-on and achievable add-ons.
If these are reached, it could bring the deal closer to the
£5m Rangers have reportedly been clear that they want to recoup for the
ex-Arsenal Academy graduate.
The reports are in keeping with claims from leading Rangers
insider Four Lads Had a Dream, who explained Glen Kamara was not included in
the club’s Germany training camp because he was busy “negotiating his exit”.
Leeds United have already had a busy transfer window, at
least in terms of outgoings, with several of the club’s highest-paid stars
vacating Elland Road following their relegation.
Marc Roca, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson and
Rasmus Kristensen have all been shipped out on loan deals, whilst
highest-earner Rodrigo is off to Al-Rayyan in Qatar.
There is also much speculation over the futures of Illan
Meslier and Junior Firpo, with offers likely for Willy Gnonto, Jack Harrison
and Tyler Adams.
Glen Kamara could be about to buck the trend of exits for
Leeds United, who are on the verge of a full takeover from USA sports group
49ers Enterprises.
FFP rules will restrict what the club can spend this summer
but that is not expected to have an impact on the reported interest in Glen
Kamara as the sounds around Leeds United continue to get louder.
