Dan James' first words after Leeds United exit as winger tells of 'great Fulham fit' - Leeds Live 2/9/22

James joined Fulham from Leeds on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day.

Daniel James has described Fulham as a 'great fit' for his career after completing a loan switch from Leeds United on transfer deadline day. The 24-year-old is understood to have made the move in an effort to increase his playing time ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar.

The Wales international scored four goals in 35 appearances in 2021/22 following his £25million transfer from rivals Manchester United last summer. But after just one year since his arrival in West Yorkshire, James is set to feature for his third club in the Premier League, albeit temporarily.

"I'm looking forward to it," James told FFCtv following his arrival.

"I've spoken to the gaffer and it feels like a great fit for me, and I can't waited to get started."

Fulham have enjoyed a strong start to the 2022/23 season after achieving promotion via the Championship title last term.

The Cottagers have collected eight points (the same as Leeds) from their first five games (W2 D2 L1) and only trail the Whites in eighth place on goal difference.

Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan is optimistic that the addition of James will help maintain their early momentum in the top-flight.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Dan James to Fulham," Khan revealed. "He's an exciting talent, and he's gained tremendous playing experienced at a young age, both domestically and internationally.

"Dan is very keen to play for Marco here at Fulham, and we're delighted to have him join the squad as we work to continue the great momentum that the team has started this season with."

His exit caused uncertainty regarding the lack of attacking options at Elland Road, especially once Bamba Dieng's proposed transfer collapsed despite Leeds agreeing both a fee and personal terms for the Senegalese international.

Dieng had his head turned by OGC Nice but remarkably failed his medical with Ligue 1 side and will return to Marseille an unwanted man after it emerged Igor Tudor was unimpressed by his summer weight gain.

However, Leeds quickly turned things around in their hunt for a centre-forward with a late swoop for Italian international Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich. The 18-year-old is the youngest ever goal scorer for Italy after scoring his maiden goal against Germany in June.

Gnonto, who spent eight years in Inter Milan's youth set-up, joined Swiss Super League outfit FC Zurich in 2020. The young forward scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 74 appearances across all competitions during his two-year stay in Switzerland.
