Leeds: ‘most cost-effective club’ in the PL - Vital Leeds 24/7/22
Ollie Mitchell
The financial figures for Europe’s top leagues can provide
some interesting insight into the world of Leeds United, and some of this can
be found in this article.
First, we get some idea of how Leeds are able to outbid AC
Milan, the Italian champions, for Club Brugge forward Charles de Ketelaere.
Television revenue alone brought in £116 million for the Whites, almost double
that of the Rossoneri – who only brought in £66.3 million in league TV revenue.
As LeedsLive note, even their Champions League TV revenue only brings this up
to £96 million, still comfortably below Leeds. The financial muscle of the
Premier League is clear to see, and this is down to having four domestic
broadcasting partners – Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and BBC Sport – as
well as numerous international partners including BEIN Sports and Super Sport.
Now the final financial figures for 2020/21 are in, some random stats. It cost Chelsea £8.55 million for every Premier League goal in terms of wages and transfer fee amortisation, perhaps surprisingly followed by Fulham. Leeds were the most cost effective club. pic.twitter.com/36epn5IbNh

Twitter user @KieranMaguire has noted that for the 2020/21
season, Leeds got the most for their money, spending less than 3x as much as
Chelsea for every goal scored across the Premier League season, accounting for
both wages and transfer fees.
This seems to justify Leeds’ big spending this window, being
up there with Europe’s elite in terms of transfer fess this summer. The
outgoings of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, of course, also help Leeds and Jesse
Marsch’s quest to build the perfect side to build upon last season’s successful
relegation fight. The below figures are now old news but they demonstrate the
kind of company the club are keeping financially.
