Leeds United manager Brian McDermott was at Rochdale on Good Friday to see Southend United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.
The 20-year-old kept a clean sheet as Southend ran out 3-0 winners. Bentley has been in sparkling form for the League Two side and Leeds consider him a potential star in the making. Bentley, who stands at 6ft 4ins, could replace veteran Paddy Kenny should he leave this summer.
It was an afternoon to forget for third-placed Dale, who were put to the sword by play-off hopefuls Southend.
Barry Corr and Jacob Murphy scored in the first half for the Shrimpers and Michael Timlin also netted one minute after the break to keep his side secure in sixth place.
