Gary Kelly thinks that he should be given the Leeds United manager's job and says that he is the man to lead the club to a play-off position.
On a dramatic Friday at Elland Road, manager Brian McDermott was sacked after only nine months in charge of the Sky Bet Championship club.
The Yorkshire outfit are in the midst of a takeover thought to be headed by Italian Massimo Cellino.
The news of McDermott's departure sparked some dramatic scenes outside the stadium, with fans reportedly attempting to block Cellino from leaving the ground.
But, former Republic of Ireland defender Kelly is happy to help and thinks that he is the man to lead the club forward.
Kelly said: "The club needs someone who has the club, fans and city at heart.
"It deserves someone with that passion and desire to succeed to get back to being one of the biggest clubs in the country, exactly where the the fans, club and city belong.
"This season, looking at the current predicament, I am more than confident I can take them to the play-offs, given the right backing and support.
"I believe I have all the credentials to do this and more."
Leeds face Huddersfield Town at Elland Road on Saturday.
