Luciano Becchio’s Elland Road exit has moved a step nearer after it emerged that Leeds are closing in on giant striker Habib Habibou to replace him.
Habibou was a target for QPR earlier this month but looks to be bound for Elland Road, amid claims that Leeds have had a bid accepted by his club Zulte Waregem.
The move should hasten Becchio’s departure, after Leeds manager Neil Warnock insisted his main striker’s transfer request would only be granted on the condition a replacement was found.
Warnock appears to have settled on 6ft 4in marksman Habibou, born in Bria in the Central African Republic but a French passport holder.
The 25-year old has scored 20 goals in 57 appearances for his Belgian League club, including six in 13 this season, and has a reputation for being a fearsome physical presence as an attacking spearhead.
