RADEBE STATES CASE FOR DEFENCE
Leeds defender Lucas Radebe is happy with the way manager Kevin Blackwell is rebuilding the club from the back.

Radebe, sidelined after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in August, will end his 10-year love affair with United at the end of the season and he has every confidence in the new generation of defenders who will fill his shoes.

Captain Paul Butler, left-back Stephen Crainey and centre-half Clarke Carlisle arrived in the summer and Blackwell kept hold of Michael Duberry, young England Under-21 international Matthew Kilgallon and long-serving Gary Kelly.

"He has concentrated on defence and by doing that he has made sure we do not get beat easily," Radebe told the club's official website.

"Last season we were conceding too many goals and that made it very hard for us to get them at the other end. Now we can keep clean sheets and that gives us a chance to score.

"I know there have not been too many goals but they will come. The main thing is to make sure you do not lose the game."
