Leeds United Football Club - Smith Starts Ban
Leeds United have confirmed that Alan Smith will be taking up his two match suspension immediately, ruling him out of tonight's trip to Newcastle.
Smith received his ban after being found guilty of improper conduct at an FA hearing in London yesterday following his actions in the Carling Cup game with Manchester United in October.
The 23-year-old was seen to throw an empty plastic bottle back into the crowd after it had been thrown onto the pitch and apologised immediately after it struck a family friend.
Leeds could have waited until 14 days for him to take up his two match ban, but United caretaker boss Eddie Gray decided to get his suspension out of the way as soon as possible.
The FA have been notified of the club's decision, and that there is no appeal against yesterday's punishment towards Smith.
