Jesse Marsch shares shocking stat that Leeds board told him just before he became manager — Leeds United News 10/1/24

Jesse Marsch was sacked less than a year into his Leeds
United tenure after playing a part in our Premier League survival in 21-22 –
and he says Leeds told him that relegation was almost inevitable.
Taking over from Marcelo Bielsa, Marsch only won four of his
12 Premier League games in charge at the end of the 21-22 season – but it was
enough to stay up, beating Brentford on the last day of the season.
But in what was his second season, after a number of
signings made for Marsch, he could only manage another four Premier League wins
in the next 20 league games. Marsch is to blame for our relegation.
Blame can also be attributed to the board for not sacking
him before Christmas, or the appointment of Javi Gracia. But it was Marsch’s
signings, alongside Victor Orta, that ultimately failed and saw us down.
Marsch has been in the media a lot recently as he waits for
his next job, losing out to Tony Mowbray in the race for the Birmingham City
job. He spoke to Simon Jordan on the Up Front podcast this week.
In a snippet posted on Twitter ahead of Thursday’s episode,
Marsch explains how the Leeds board told him that there was an 84% chance Leeds
would be relegated – after he arrived. It turned out to be true.
“When I went to Leeds, they told me that within three years,
the club had an 84% chance of being relegated,” Marsch claims, in the short
video posted on the Twitter of Simon Jordan’s Up Front podcast.
Ultimately, it proved to be true – but Marsch could have
helped the situation by signing better players, ones that were willing to fight
for us instead of jumping ship at the first opportunity after relegation.
Also, it is not the first time Marsch has come out and made a big claim about his time at Leeds. He also accused Andrea Radrizzani of losing his nerve in the decision to sack. But he is still the one to blame.
