Atmosphere and ownership performance: Reasons for cheer at Elland Road right now - Leeds Live 10/8/22

Results are in from LeedsLive's inaugural 'Big Leeds United Forum', and the fans are happy, for now

Flirting with relegation is but a distant nightmare for many Leeds United fans, who are, in the main, happy with where the club is at across the board right now. The results from LeedsLive’s Big Leeds United Forum are in and optimism reigns supreme.

There were seven categories we put to our readers and United supporters last week, ahead of the season opener with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with requests for answers on a scale of zero to 100. For example, on overall happiness with the club generally, zero was total disenchantment and 100 was ecstasy and an inability to be happier.

The average mark out of 100 across the seven topics was 71. That’s a significant margin north of a middling 50 and just shows how upbeat the fan base is despite that final-day great escape in May.

There were 1,386 responses to the survey, if you wanted some context around how representative these results are of the wider fan base. The question with the highest mark was no major surprise.

Eighty-eight was the average mark readers gave to the atmosphere inside Elland Road during a matchday. If anything, there is probably some surprise that’s not higher given how much love there is for LS11.

The lowest mark was still at a healthy 62 out of 100 and that was given for the level of trust fans place in Jesse Marsch and his coaching staff to achieve success with Leeds. After a difficult 12-match run-in which did not see too much attractive football and an uninspiring pre-season, this was still a high mark for Marsch.

The American has always spoken well in the media and his track record with previous clubs was promising, so that must have played into what was still a largely positive pool of responses. The other five topics float around that overall average of 71 out of 100, as you would expect.

Overall happiness was rated at 68, the approval of the club’s ownership was at 73, the level of ambition being shown by the club marked at 68, happiness with transfers was at 66, while the emotional connection with this roster averaged out at 69 out of 100. Look out for future editions of The Big Leeds United Forum on LeedsLive throughout the season which we will use to gauge progress at Elland Road.
