Leeds United loanee Poveda may leave Thorp Arch for Blackburn Rovers next week - MOT Leeds News 14/4/22

Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda is expected to return to Blackburn Rovers next week, according to manager Tony Mowbray.

The young winger is undergoing his rehab at Thorp Arch after sustaining a serious injury at Rovers.

However, he is nearing full fitness and will return to Ewood Park to see out the rest of his loan spell.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Mowbray is confident that Poveda will play some part in the remainder of their season.

“I spoke to Leeds yesterday. He’s on the training ground working hard, he hasn’t played any football yet in terms of games, and between Leeds, the boy and ourselves we’ll decide whether he comes and gets involved for the last few weeks of the season with us

“We’ll then have to assess how he looks on the grass and whether we think he could help us or not. We’re still paying our contribution towards his salary so if he’s fit then he should be back and we’ll try and negotiate that he comes back next week.”

Give him game time

Poveda had plenty of moments of brilliance last season when he came off the bench.

Many even called for him to get more minutes and maybe even start the odd games.

However, Marcelo Bielsa never deemed him good enough for that and he was restricted to cameos.

This season, things looked to be going well before his injury threatened him to miss the rest of the games.

Hopefully, he’s fine and ready to shine on his loan spell back at Blackburn Rovers.

This could even put him in contention to be a first-team player under Jesse Marsch next term should he impress in the next weeks as well as in pre season.
