Journalist claims Marsch will undoubtedly sign a new striker - This is Futbol 21/4/22

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United will certainly sign a new striker after a disappointing Premier League season.

Leeds United have struggled this season and find themselves just two places above the bottom three, in comparison to last year when they finished ninth in the Premier League in their first campaign back in the top flight for 16 years.

A lot of the struggles for Leeds have come down to the injury troubles they have suffered, with key players such as Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper sidelined for lengthy periods. Cooper and Phillips have returned to action in recent weeks and the Whites are now four games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Just seven sides have scored fewer than Leeds’ 38 this season, and Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that Jesse Marsch will undoubtedly sign a new forward in the summer transfer window.

He said: “They’re undoubtedly going to sign a new striker. Personally, I think they will look for someone who’s already done it in the Premier League because they’ve seen other players, Rodrigo, for example, he’s a great player, but he’s taken a long time to understand life in the Premier League.”

Leeds have missed a focal point up front this season. Patrick Bamford has featured just nine times this term when he was instrumental for his side last season. In 2020/21, he scored 17 league goals and registered seven assists, as per SofaScore.

If Leeds had Bamford fit this season, it would be highly likely that they would not find themselves this far down the league table, and with the uncertainty surrounding the severity of his injury, it may be a smart move for Marsch to bring in another forward in the summer.

Even if Bamford was fighting fit at the start of next campaign, having another striker would offer healthy competition to the English forward, or they could even form a partnership up top.
