KALVIN PHILLIPS: WE ARE ALWAYS CONFIDENT - Leedsunited.com 13/4/22
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Watford.
Phillips continued his comeback from injury, being
introduced from the bench for the second successive match.
The England international gave his verdict on the match as
Leeds’ good form continued, having picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in
the last four matches.
“Before the game we’d seen the early result and we knew we
had to come out, play our football and stick to our game plan,” said Phillips.
“In the first half it was quite a scruffy game, but in the
second half we wore them down and got the chances in the end.
“Obviously I didn’t play in the first half, but we were
trying to play in tight areas and some of the balls weren’t coming off, but as
the game went on, we managed to get balls into the middle area and with Jack
Harrison and Raphinha and created some good chances.
“We had a bit of luck for the second goal, and I think we
dominated after that.
“Rodrigo got in, nicked it off the defender and took it
around the defender, we’d worked hard all game and needed one to break for us
and luckily he was in the right place at the right time.
“The target is always to survive in the Premier League, we
don’t really speak in the group as if we’re going to go down or there’s a
chance of us going down, we are always confident.
“That’s the way it should be, I don’t think we need to speak
about it, we have important games between now and the end of the season, we
have to do better than the teams around us and hopefully we can finish off the
season well.”
Phillips also had praise for the Whites support, who packed
the away end at Vicarage Road.
He said: “The fans always travel in force and we always want
to put on a show every time we play away from home and do our best.
“I thought the fans were amazing for the full 90 minutes,
even when the game wasn’t going as well as what it could have been.”
