MARCELO BIELSA: IT WAS A GAME WITH ALTERNATE DOMINANCE - Leedsunited.com 9/2/22

Marcelo Bielsa gave his thoughts to the media after seeing his side come from two goals down to gain a more than deserved point, away at Aston Villa.

The Whites went into the lead at Villa Park but a resurgent home side then went into a 3-1 lead, from which Bielsa’s side recovered well.

Dan James scored twice, whilst Diego Llorente netted the all important leveller in the West Midlands.

“It was a game with alternate dominance, with moments of good football from both teams.” Bielsa explained.

“It was a second-half that didn't stand out as much, perhaps we could have unbalanced in the second half. We created a few more chances which we were in conditions to do.

“What we wanted was to prevent them from creating danger, but for us to continue to attack with fluidity.

“The fact we were only one goal behind at half-time strengthened us.”

Playing up top as the striker on the evening, James finished well early on, before then battling hard to then find the back of the net with a header just before the interval. He was praised by Bielsa for his performance.

"I am very happy for him,” Bielsa stated.

“I sincerely value the contribution Dan makes to our game. That he scored is a lot better, but even when he doesn't score he makes contributions for our offensive game to be profound.

“We count on creative players to construct the offensive game. To attack is very difficult, it's the most difficult thing in football and it's difficult to play well for those players in attack continuously.

“Normally, the contributions even out. Sometimes one player stands out, other times another. But it's the norm in the offensive part of every team.
