Somma set for comeback game
Davide Somma looks set to play his first game in over eighteen months for the development squad next week.
The striker was due to get a run out this week in the development game against Wigan Athletic until the game was called off and he is now expected to get a run out against Birmingham City next week.
Somma hasn`t played a competitive game for Leeds since the final day of the 2010/11 season at Queens Park Rangers.
The South African international suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury the following pre-season, an injury that has kept him sidelined ever since.
The injury was a huge setback for Somma who had enjoyed a successful first season in the Leeds side.
Somma signed for Leeds in October 2009 and having made just one brief substitutes appearance for Leeds in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy he had two spells away from the club on loan.
After failing to score in three games for Chesterfield, he had an highly successful loan spell at Lincoln City.
He scored nine times in fourteen appearances for the League Two strugglers to help guide them away from the relegation zone.
His first championship appearance for Leeds was successful with him netting twice after coming on with fifteen minutes remaining and he made his first start for the club against Leicester in the following game, scoring to give Leeds the lead.
Despite being mainly used as a substitute, he scored twelve times for Leeds and his form saw him called into the South African national squad.
He scored in his second game for South Africa in the 2-0 win against Kenya, making three appearances for the national side in the season.
Somma will hope to prove to Leeds boss Neil Warnock before the end of the season that he has a future at Elland Road, with the 27 year old out of contract in the summer.
