Total package price and club statement as Leeds United confirm Willy Gnonto transfer to Fiorentina — YEP 1/9/26

Willy Gnonto’s Leeds United exit has been confirmed.

Willy Gnonto’s exit from Leeds United to Fiorentina has been confirmed on a season-long loan with option to buy in a €21m total package price.

Leeds gave Gnonto permission to travel to Italy ahead of the potential move on Monday and pictures then emerged of the winger in Fiorentina training gear but United were only prepared to let Gnonto leave if they were able to bring another attacker to Elland Road.

The Whites, though, are working on a deal to sign France under-21s international winger Jean Matteo-Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt before the transfer deadline and Gnonto’s move to Fiorentina has now been confirmed.

The winger joins Fiorentina on loan with the Italian club having the option to purchase in a total package price of €21m across loan fee, permanent transfer and add-ons.

A statement from Leeds United read: “Leeds United can confirm Wilfried Gnonto has joined ACF Fiorentina on loan until the end of the 2026/27 season.

“The forward links up with the Serie A side on a temporary basis and in doing so returns to his home nation of Italy, having left in 2020.

“Gnonto joined the Whites in August 2022 and has been a regular member of the squad since arriving, amassing just short of 150 appearances for the club.

“A hugely popular member of the team, Willy played a key role in helping the club to achieve promotion back to the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring nine goals and grabbing six assists as the Whites lifted the Sky Bet Championship trophy.

“Across last term, the Italy international made 29 appearances across all competitions, helping United retain their Premier League status and reach the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup.

“Gnonto heads to a Fiorentina side who will be looking to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish in Serie A under the newly appointed Fabio Grosso. In the previous campaign, the Viola also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League.

“Willy now heads out on loan with the best wishes of everyone at Elland Road during his time in Florence and we look forward to seeing his progress while away from the club.”
