Daniel Farke's instant reaction to Leeds United point vs Brighton as seven-game wait ended — YEP 5/9/26

Leeds United enjoyed a slight improvement of their previously dismal record at the Amex Stadium.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke believes his side created enough to beat Brighton but was happy with how they dug in to protect a good point.

The Whites arrived at Brighton with a dismal record having not even scored in their last seven trips. It took 15 minutes for that latter run to end, Jayden Bogle sneaking in at the back post to tap in after chances for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ao Tanaka.

Tanaka thought he’d made it two just after half-time, but for a tight offside call. Brighton upped the tempo after that shock to the system and levelled through Luka Vuskovic on 71 minutes.

“Yes, overall, a point away at Brighton is a really good point for us, given our recent record here,” Farke admitted. “It's been ages ago since we took something from here and even the last time we a goal here, so for that a point is definitely a good result.

“But more was even possible, I would say. At half-time we should have been out of sight normally, and the second half was a bit of a similar topic. Anton Stach normally buries the game with his chance. Ao Tanaka, we all got the feeling he buried the game but then they somehow found a line and he was one inch offside.

“Even in the final minutes, Lucas Nmecha had a great chance to win the game for us, so it was possible. Of course Brighton would have periods in the second half when they put pressure on us and put crosses in, and we didn't allow many chances, but the pressure was mounting and if you don't bury the game, Brighton has enough quality to come back and to score a goal.”

Brighton’s leveller felt like it had been coming and they had chances to score a second, but for the most part Leeds kept them at arm’s length. Good late chances fell to James Justin and substitute Lukas Nmecha, with a point fair come full-time.

“But I also like that normally you would then, after this run of the game, also lose such a game in the final minutes,” Farke added. “I loved that my players dug in and even in the last minutes, Lucas had a great chance and even three set pieces in the last two minutes where we nearly scored.

“But overall, it doesn't take anything away that it's a good point away at Brighton, and I'm happy that for the first time since many years we travel back as a club and we gave our supporters something to cheer about.”
