Exclusive: 'Explosive' Largie Ramazani's future at Leeds United assessed amid scoring run at Valencia — Yorkshire Post 8/3/26
By Tom Coates
Largie Ramazani will be a “different player” when he returns
to Leeds United this summer, believes ex-Whites marksman Jermaine Beckford.
Somewhat controversially, Ramazani was allowed to join La
Liga outfit Valencia on a season-long loan deal in the last summer window.
He had been part of Leeds’ pre-season preparations and even
made the bench for the Premier League season opener against Everton.
However, having struggled to nail down a spot in Daniel
Farke’s starting XI last season, the 25-year-old was allowed to depart.
He has had to be patient at the Mestalla, although has
started Valencia’s last three league games and registered a goal in each one.
There is no buy option in his loan deal and Beckford thinks
there is a way back for Ramazani in West Yorkshire.
Large Ramazani’s position assessed
He told The Yorkshire Post: "There's always an
opportunity, there's always a chance. He went out on loan because he needed
game time. He wasn't being afforded the game time he wanted. He's still a young
player as well.
“He needs, similarly to Joe Gelhardt, to learn the game. I'm
not saying that to be patronising but when you step up to play the men's game,
the quality level, the intensity, the physicality, all of the above and some,
come into effect.
“I found it difficult initially when I first signed for
Leeds. It took me 18 months - I had to go out on loan, learn the game, get
kicked about a bit, learn how to deal with those challenges, how to ride those
challenges.
“I came back and was a completely different player. I think
it will be the same with him, with Ramazani.”
Learning to use attributes
Ramazani is currently plying his trade under Valencia boss
Carlos Corberan, a figure Leeds fans know well.
He served as head coach of Leeds’ under-23s before moving
into the senior set-up as part of Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
If Ramazani can hold down his place in Corberan’s XI, he may
prove difficult for Farke to ignore next season.
Beckford said: “He's got that explosive pace, and he's a
wide player as well, full-backs hate that. It's the one thing you can't defend
against. He just needs to learn how to use it and when to use it and that's
what he's doing out in Valencia.
“The way he's moving, the goals he's scoring, the confidence
he's playing with, he understands it. When he does come back to Leeds United,
he'll be a different player to the one we saw on loan initially.”
