Manchester City are putting together a £10million package to sign Leeds defender Sam Byram.
The right back, 19, is top of a list of English players City manager Roberto Mancini wants to bring in.
Essex-born Byram, who started his career at York, established himself at Leeds this season and impressed Mancini when Leeds played City in the FA Cup.
The deal is worth about £6m up front with add-ons and City may let Byram return to Yorkshire on loan.
More immediately, David Silva says he fears the worst in his race to be fit for City’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Sunday. Silva limped out of City’s win over neighbours United on Monday with a hamstring strain.
The Spain forward will have scans today but, asked if he was worried missing the Wembley date, he said: ‘I felt it then and I feel it now. ‘It will be a big blow for me. It’s a game that everyone wants to play.’
Speaking at an event to promote Anfi, a holiday company in his home town of Arguineguin, Silva said City’s 2-1 win over United proved they can mount a title challenge next season. But he admitted Robin van Persie’s late winner for United at the Etihad Stadium this season typified the change of fortunes this season.
