Mark Hughes has emerged as the leading contender to replace Neil Warnock as manager at Leeds.
It would be the second time in 15 months that Hughes had succeeded Warnock after a similar turn of events happened at QPR.
Along with Brian McDermott, sacked by Reading last month, Hughes is favoured by Leeds owners GFH Capital, according to the Mirror as the club look to keep hold of their Championship status in the remaining games of the season.
After losing 2-1 at home to Derby on Monday, Warnock said that he did not feel he was the right man to lead the club to the end of the season and that the fans would only be appeased if a new manager was brought in.
Hughes has been out of work since leaving QPR in November when they were struggling in the Premier League relegation zone, a position they have not recovered from since.
The 49-year-old Welshman may see it as his chance to revive a 'fallen giant', but his salary demands are likely to be extremely high for a Championship club.
In his management career to date, Hughes has taken the helm at Wales, Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham and QPR.
Given financial backing, Leeds have the infrastructure and fan-base to get back into the Premier League, even though they dropped into the third-tier of English football in 2007.
GFH bought Ken Bates' stake in the club in December, but sold 10% to the Bahrain-based International Investment Bank just last Thursday.
