Deadline Day disaster — Leeds United braced for no new signings — Leeds Press 1/9/25
by Kris Sanyal
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has made it clear that
without attacking reinforcements on deadline day, Leeds could face an even
bigger challenge to stay in the Premier League this season. However, there has
been little movement at Elland Road this morning.
The Whites were expected to be one of the busier clubs on
the final day of the transfer window, but if the morning shows the day, Leeds
fans are in for a frustrating deadline day as the club continue to struggle to
bring in players towards the final days of the summer.
Leeds have had a few frustrating misses in the market in
recent days. Facundo Buonanotte changed his mind at the last minute to agree to
move to Chelsea despite the Whites having all the agreements in place to sign
him on loan at the end of last season.
The Whites have received a surprise lifeline if they want to
sign Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer on deadline day, but Eduard Spertsyan
won’t be leaving Krasnodar today, and Bilal El Khannouss is off to VfB
Stuttgart in the coming hours.
Leeds sporting director Adam Underwood and the recruitment
team are working hard to bring in attacking reinforcements on the final day of
the window.
Last week, the club were confident of signing at least one
more attacker before the end of the transfer window, but the Buonanotte
transfer collapse was unexpected.
Leeds are now working against time to set up a deal, and
according to Leeds Live, there is a real possibility that they do not sign
another player before the window closes this evening.
Farke wants to avoid that scenario as Leeds have looked
short of ideas in the final third, and have had only a handful of shots on
target in their first three Premier League games.
The Whites are assessing all the options, but after spending
over £100m on ten new signings, and just about bringing in just £10m through
exits thus far, Leeds have PSR concerns and will have to cut their cloth
accordingly.
At most, Leeds are expected to sign one more attacker on
loan with an option or obligation to buy.
The Yorkshire giants are determined not to sign players just
for the sake of it, prioritising genuine quality over simply adding numbers to
the squad.
