Paraag Marathe to face Red Bull and Elland Road questions in off-record meetings — YEP 11/10/24

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe will face questions over the club's Red Bull partnership and Elland Road development next week in a pair of meetings with supporters.

Marathe, who heads up the 49ers Enterprises ownership group, will be in the country ahead of Leeds' Friday night fixture with Sheffield United at Elland Road. Twenty-four hours prior to that he will sit down with the Supporters Advisory Board [SAB] and the Leeds United Supporters Trust in what the club say will be off-the-record meetings to help him better understand the present feeling among fans and provide some transparency for the two groups.

A spokesperson for the Trust told the YEP that they welcome the chance to get a direct insight into the running of the club and members plan to ask Marathe about the boardroom partnership with Red Bull and plans to expand Elland Road.

"We represent our members with regular dialogue with the club, but it’s always really useful if fans have the opportunity to hear directly from the club and get their own questions answered," said a spokesperson. "So we regularly put these face to face events on with the club. We did a similar event with Paraag last year and it was really insightful and beneficial to hear from him directly. We know members have told us they are specifically keen to understand more about the ground redevelopment, the ongoing Red Bull partnership and squad plans. It’s great that he is willing to come along and have open dialogue with fans."

Trust members have been invited by email to book a place at the event with Marathe.

A statement from the SAB on Leeds United's official website says its membership is made up of fans from the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust, Leeds United Supporters Club, Marching Out Together, the Disability Supporter Board and LUSCOS, as well as 'individual members covering a wide range of supporters and their interest groups.'

Marathe has met with both groups previously since he and 49ers Enterprises took over the club from Andrea Radrizzani and although minutes from those meetings were not published for the wider fanbase the Trust did summarise their conversation with the chairman for their members. Marathe has not spoken on the record since he sat down with the local media a few days after Leeds' play-off final defeat at the hands of Southampton. The YEP understands there are currently no plans for Marathe to speak with the media next week.
