What the Spanish media are saying about Mateo Joseph as Leeds striker scores again on international duty — Leeds United News 7/9/24

Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph continued his fine start
to the season with another goal, but this time for Spain U21s.
Joseph came off the bench in the 66th minute with his side
being held to a 1-1 draw, but took just a matter of moments to make his mark.
The 20-year-old once again showed the quality of his
movement as he got in front of the defender at the near post to latch onto a
cross Hugo Novoa Ramos to steer home a winner.
This is the second winner Joseph has scored in as many
appearances for Spain U21s having also netted the only goal in a 1-0 victory
over Belgium in March in the 88th minute.
As a result of his goals, Spain’s qualification for next
summer’s European Championships is now all but confirmed, as they sit six
points ahead of both Scotland and Belgium, with three games remaining.
This sort of movement and finish is becoming somewhat of a
trademark for Joseph after his first goal of the season in Leeds‘ win over Hull
City seven days’ ago.
Joseph was able to get in front of his marker at the near
post and volley an instinctive effort into the net to set Leeds on their way to
a 2-0 victory.
Clearly Joseph’s performances for both club and now country
are not going unnoticed from those in Spain, particularly after what Spanish
media outlet Teledeporte tweeted after his goal.
Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who also got on the
scoresheet for Spain, hailed Joseph as ‘Leeds’ MVP’ during an interview earlier
this week.
And now the Spanish media are beginning to catch up on what
everyone else is seeing, with them clearly impressed with his goal.
They tweeted: “This kid has some stuff! [Top emoji] Mateo
Joseph puts Spain back in front with this goal.”
All Joseph needed to cap off his fine start to the season
was a goal and thankfully he got that in front of a sold out Elland Road
against Hull City.
Everyone’s opinion was that once he got one, he has the
potential to go on a serious run and that is exactly what he seems to be doing,
based on this latest strike.
Of course, this is a totally different level of football,
but there is some serious quality in that Spain U21s side and so making an
impact will give him confidence.
Joseph faces a trip to Hungary in the second match of the
break on Tuesday and hopefully he stays fit ahead of next weekend’s game
against Burnley.
