Daniel Farke thinks Leeds can do something this season no team has achieved since back in 1980 — Leeds United News 6/2/24

Daniel Farke will be busy preparing his Leeds United side to
face Plymouth Argyle away from home in a fourth round replay of The FA Cup –
and the German boss thinks we have a chance of winning it.
Having won against Peterborough United in the third round,
which included a wondergoal from Patrick Bamford and an Ethan Ampadu brace –
two of his three senior goals – Leeds then drew with Plymouth.
Jaidon Anthony scored a wonderful goal in that game, and he
could be in line to start against Plymouth tonight. Leeds will be expected to
win, having been expected to do so at Elland Road. But we are away.
A win would take Leeds into the fifth round, just the second
time in eight years. The last time we got to the quarter-finals, was 22 seasons
ago – a 1-0 loss to Sheffield United. But, we are still in the Cup hat.
Farke spoke about whether FA Cup has a different feel to the
pressures of promotion to the Premier League – and he says it does, before
claiming that there is a chance that Leeds can go an win the Cup.
“Yes of course, it is a different competition. In the league
you know one point or three points makes a big difference, but in a cup it is
do or die. It is a different type of pressure, but pressure that we enjoy.
“Nobody expects us to win the FA Cup, for us as a
Championship team it is not realistic to win the FA Cup, but who knows. We have
a chance to go into the group of the last 16 teams,” Farke told Leeds Live.
The last time a team from outside England’s top division won
the FA Cup, was West Ham back in 1980. Leeds of course, last won the FA Cup
back in 1972. Finals in 1969-70, and then after our win in 1973.
Leeds have a very, very slim chance. There are much bigger
teams in the competition and preference will be given to an instant return. But
say we reach the last eight, then it is something we have to pursue.
