Habib Habibou has been reassured that he will be given a chance to shine at Leeds United, with manager Neil Warnock confident that the striker is almost ready for regular appearances in the Championship.
Habibou has had two fleeting opportunities to impress in his first month on loan at Elland Road but Warnock said that the forward’s form on the training ground would earn him more outings over the course of the run-in.
United took a minor gamble on Habibou’s potential by signing him on loan from Belgian club Zulte Waregem hours before the closure of the January transfer window and agreeing an option to take him permanently in the summer.
Habibou came off the bench during losses to Cardiff City and Middlesbrough but Warnock declined the option of throwing him on at Blackburn Rovers last Saturday with the game heading for a goalless draw.
Warnock said: “We’ve been working with him to give us the option of putting him on for 30 minutes. He needs to know what we want defensively as well.
“He does have ability and some of the things he does in training are impressive. It’s just about me having the confidence to put him on.”
