Leeds United Football Club - Duberry Agrees To Stoke Move
Michael Duberry has agreed a move to Championship rivals Stoke City this Wednesday morning.
The 29-year-old defender has been for talks at the Britannia Stadium and rejoins the Potters after spending three months of the season on loan there previously. His move to Stoke is dependent on passing a medical this afternoon but he is expected to be included in their squad to face Brighton this Saturday.
He has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with Tony Pulis's team.
The former England under-21 arrived at arrived at Elland Road from Chelsea in the summer of 1999 for £4.5m but has endured a frustrating last few seasons at the club.
Injury proved to be his biggest set-back as within months of signing he picked up a thigh problem that put him out for months and cost him his first team place. He started to show the form that earned him his move to Leeds in the first place in September 2000 but a ruptured Achilles put him out for the rest of the season.
After that the partnership between England internationals Rio Ferdinand and Jonathan Woodgate at the back saw his chances of establishing himself hit further.
Michael refused to get downcast about his stop-start spell at Leeds and shrugged off speculation about his future and battled hard for a place in the side, something he managed to achieve to a degree in the previous two seasons at the club when he made 20+ appearances in each season.
This season he has made just four starts for Leeds in the Championship and once in the FA Cup.
Duberry made 76 appearances in all competitions during his five year spell with The Whites.
