Leeds United Football Club - Just What We Deserved
Just What We Deserved
United boss Kevin Blackwell was delighted with his side after they put on a performance deserving of all the points in the 2-1 win over Coventry.
Leeds totally dominated the first half against the Sky Blues and took the lead midway through the half thanks to Nathan Blake's first goal for the club.
David Healy added another goal with an excellent strike in the second half and apart from surviving a late fightback in which Coventry managed to get a goal back, Leeds were comfortable winners and Blackwell gave praise where it was due.
"I thought the lads were magnificent," he said.
"They stuck to the game plan and looked very well organised and we kept them penned in for long spells.
"I was just disappointed that we never really finished the game off, but that's a problem we've had all season.
"But they were two great goals, well constructed and well taken so I have to be very pleased today.
"I enjoyed watching the football at times, we were getting corner after corner and we were clever with the way we received the ball, taking it wide again and putting the crosses in from great angles which forced them to give corners away.
"When you look at Aaron Lennon at 17, Simon Walton at 17, Danny Pugh playing his third game at left-back and Frazer going in for his first game at right back and he was awesome, I just couldn't ask any more from the players."
Healy's goal proved once again that the striker is an excellent addition to the squad, the Northern Ireland international now has 14 goals this season, six of them for Leeds, and Blackwell expects even more after his performance against the Sky Blues.
"We had a long chat after the game against Crewe where I thought David was too far outside the game, I wanted him inside more and he's done exactly what I asked.
"It was a sublime goal there is no doubt about that, he showed real quality. He's come inside, held it off and drawn the centre-half and played the ball around him into the bottom corner of the net.
"We've seen some absolutely spectacular goals from David Healy in the first 14 games for the club and hopefully there's a lot more to come."
