Leeds United set for fifth summer signing as transfer agreement reached — Leeds Live 15/7/25

Leeds United have reached an agreement to sign Newcastle
midfielder Sean Longstaff.
Leeds Live understands the Whites have had three bids
rejected for Longstaff this summer. The latest offer, believed to be an initial
£10 million plus a further £2m in potential add-ons, was knocked back last
week.
Sources in the north east say the Magpies are holding out
for a higher fee than Leeds have offered to help ensure they continue to
navigate profitability and sustainability (PSR) regulations.
LeedsLive's sister title in the north-east, ChronicleLive,
has reported that an agreement in principle has been reached over a £12m move.
It is said that Longstaff's valuation was close to the limit Leeds were willing
to pay for him, with other candidates on their radar for a transfer if a move
for the 27-year-old could not be completed.
But his move to Elland Road now looks set to be completed
ahead of Leeds' return to the Premier League in 2025/26. The report adds that
he wanted his boyhood team to be compensated rather than face losing him as a
free agent next summer.
Longstaff made 214 senior appearances for the club, but
played just 787 minutes in the top-flight last season after mainly coming on as
a substitute.
The midfielder spoke about his future in November and did
not rule out an exit from St James' Park.
“If it’s here [my future] it’s great. If it’s not, it’s
not,” he said via Newcastle World. “I want to be valued as a player, I want to
be appreciated as a player and whether it’s here great. If it’s not here and
it’s somewhere else, it’ll be somewhere else.
“In a way I live day to day, game to game and I just try and
take in every game. I get to go to work every day and spend it with my best
friends, I don’t know what’s coming ahead.
"I don’t know what’s coming down the line, I just try
to embrace every day and enjoy every minute because ultimately it won’t last
forever.”
