Leeds United Football Club - Oster Set To Join
Oster Joins For A Month
United boss Kevin Blackwell has managed to complete a deal to take Sunderland midfielder John Oster on a month's loan in time for tomorrow's trip to Deepdale.
Blackwell was looking to add a much needed boost to his squad with six league fixtures coming up over the next month and has been looking for a right-sided wide player.
Out of favour at the Stadium of Light, the 25-year-old has made eight starting appearances and three substitutes appearances for Mick McCarthy this season, with his last appearance coming in September, but he has also played in Wales' World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland.
Oster's last Coca-Cola Championship start for Sunderland came in their 1-0 defeat at Reading in late August. he has made one apperance since, in the Carling Cup.
Official confirmation of the move from the FA came through in time for Oster to go straight into the squad for this weekend's trip to Preston.
Blackwell has revealed his concern that he is being forced to play too many players out of position due to a lack of strength in the squad, as he put it, "trying to fit square pegs into round holes", and Oster will offer him more flexibility.
He said: "I thought Killa played a great game on Sunday against the two best strike in the division at centre-half but against Burnley as a left-back I thought he looked like a centre-half, and Danny Pugh as a left winger looked like a left-back.
"Kids have had to come in and do a man's job. I had to take Frazer out for a rest because he's been crying out for it, Danny Pugh also needs it.
"They are still young players trying to learn the game but the challenge at Elland Road is too big for kids week in and week out."
