Sheffield United 1 Leeds United 3: Incredible response after own goal and injury as Whites move five clear — YEP 24/2/25

By Lee Sobot Leeds took on key promotion rivals Sheffield United in a Monday night clash at Bramall Lane. Leeds United produced an incredible response in the face of early setbacks in Monday night's top-of-the-table Championship clash at Sheffield United in which a brilliant 3-1 victory sent them five points clear. Chris Wilder's Blades went ahead with just 14 minutes on the clock as a header from Tyrese Campbell hit the post and then Illan Meslier before crossing the line for a Meslier own goal. Campbell was following up a header from Callum O'Hare which Meslier had tipped on to the crossbar after an unopposed Ben Brereton Diaz cross. Leeds were on the ropes but the Whites gradually got going but without making any breakthrough until Junior Firpo equalised with 18 minutes left through a bullet header to convert an excellent Dan James cross. Seeking a winner, Daniel Farke’s Whites were then only denied by an absolutely fantastic save from Blades keeper Michael C...

Details revealed as Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu is surprise absentee for Sheffield United clash — YEP 24/2/25

By Graham Smyth News of a key Leeds player injury has broken. Leeds United have lost captain Ethan Ampadu to another knee injury ahead of the table-top clash with Sheffield United. The midfielder, who has been filling in at centre-back while Pascal Struijk works his way back to fitness, arrived at Bramall Lane along with the squad but will play no part in the action. The YEP understands that Ampadu, who missed around 10 weeks of the season with a previous knee injury, is to be assessed by the club's medical team over the next few days after picking up the injury in training. Boss Daniel Farke is expected to be able to deliver an update on the health of his captain on Thursday as he previews the Elland Road game against West Bromwich Albion. Ampadu's place in the back four has been taken by a fit-again Struijk to face Sheffield United, while Farke has gone with a midfield pairing of Ilia Gruev and Ao Tanaka. Leeds' other injury doubt for the Blades clash, Manor...

Image
by Kris Sanyal Leeds United are focused on preparing for their big game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight but promotion talk around the club is growing louder. Leeds seem to be on their way to securing automatic promotion to the Premier League and even Daniel Farke has indicated that they are closing in on their goal. It has led to speculation over what Leeds would need to do in the summer to ensure they have a squad to survive in the top flight of English football. They are expected to strengthen in all areas of their squad in their attempt to raise the quality of their squad by several manifolds. However, Leeds are also keen to ensure that they hold on to one of their most important players from this season. It is hard not to focus on what Leeds United need to do in the next transfer window for survival in the Premier League even before Leeds have sealed their return to the top flight. Leeds need a calamitous loss of form to not finish in the top two from here on...

"Overrun them" — Junior Firpo sends message to Leeds United squad ahead of Sheffield United six-pointer — Football League World 24/2/25

By Samuel Armitage Firpo issues Leeds message Leeds United full-back Junior Firpo believes his side can "overrun" Sheffield United in Monday's trip to Bramall Lane.   The Whites travel from West to South Yorkshire on Monday to take on their closest title rivals, with both sides occupying the automatic promotion places ahead of the game. Leeds will come into the game buoyed by their comeback win over another promotion-chasing side last week in Sunderland - a win for which Firpo credits his side's intensity across the entire game. The Spaniard knows that Leeds couldn't celebrate their win over Sunderland for too long though, with the focus quickly shifting to Sheffield United. Nevertheless, the win has added extra confidence to Daniel Farke's side, and Firpo feels that if Leeds can play their attacking brand of football at Bramall Lane, they'll be on their way to a league double over the Blades. Junior Firpo outlines the key for Leeds United wi...

The 44-game Sheffield United and Leeds United pattern Chris Wilder knows can be broken at Bramall Lane — Sheffield Star 24/2/25

By Kyle Newbould Sheffield United and their upcoming Bramall Lane visitors have been outstanding when going ahead this season. Chris Wilder knows the importance of scoring first against Leeds United but their comeback win over Sunderland is evidence it is not the be all and end all. Sheffield United and their Monday night visitors have been imperious after going ahead this season, with neither tasting defeat after scoring a game’s opening goal. Wilder’s side have won 20 of the 23 games in which they have scored first, drawing three, while Leeds have recorded 19 victories and two stalemates from 21 after netting the opener. The numbers are a lot less encouraging after conceding first, with United and Leeds each winning just two of the nine games in which the opener has gone against them. But after coming from 1-0 down to beat Sunderland 2-1 on Monday, Daniel Farke’s side have shown the ability to fight back and Wilder will not be preparing a victory speech if his side do manage ...

The inside story of how Daniel Farke built Leeds into a force: How fast starts, attack being the best form of defence and a stubborn dressing-room mantra are exorcising promotion demons | Daily Mail Online Leeds currently top the Championship after losing in last season's play-off final. The celebrations were only just calming down at a feral Elland Road last Monday when Leeds United's hero Pascal Struijk was told to do his post-game running with the other substitutes. Struijk had come off the bench to score a brace including a 95th-minute winner against Sunderland, so the Leeds vice-captain and centre half jokingly asked what he had to do in order to be spared. 'Score a f***ing hat-trick,' came the response. In a nutshell, it summed up both the hunger and camaraderie within this Leeds side, who will go seven points clear of the play-off spots - and five clear at the top - if they win at second-placed Sheffield United on Monday night. Daniel Farke's men ...

Tony Currie cements Sheffield United legacy on and off pitch amid Leeds United prediction — Sheffield Star 23/2/25

By Danny Hall Tony Currie cements Sheffield United legacy on and off pitch amid Leeds United prediction As a man who represented both Yorkshire clubs with real distinction, Monday evening’s clash between Sheffield United and Leeds United holds obvious appeal for Tony Currie. The former forward made his name at Bramall Lane, later receiving the accolade of being named the Blades’ greatest-ever player, before a switch up the M1 in 1976 saw him represent the Elland Road side more than 100 times. Currie will watch the latest instalment of a great county rivalry between the two sides with particular interest, given their respective positions in the Premier League promotion race. Second hosts top at Bramall Lane, with the Blades knowing that three points will see them leapfrog Daniel Farke’s side and to the summit of the Championship table. “I'm chuffed to bits that both teams are doing well this season,” Currie told The Star. “They’re both Yorkshire sides, so for a Londoner to s...
