I’ll only do deals which are right for squad and club - Mac

Brian McDermott insisted last night that he was not shying away from the emergency loan market despite suspending his search for players ahead of Saturday’s clash with Derby County.
The Elland Road boss is set to use the forthcoming international break to reassess his options after failing to secure a striker or a winger on a temporary basis.
McDermott was reluctant to agree any deals before tomorrow with the Championship term set to break for a fortnight amid the final round of World Cup qualifiers and he spoke again of the danger of overloading his squad with ‘token’ signings. The 52-year-old said he was looking for deals which would replicate the success of Jason Roberts’ transfer to Reading during the 2011-12 season, a move which helped Reading claim the Championship title.
McDermott said: “I’ll make the point again that the players we’ve got here are big players for us. But let’s not kid ourselves. If I find someone and I feel there’s someone out there who can make a difference then I’ll do it. I’ve done it in the past.
“I signed Jason Roberts for Reading and he was a positive and pivotal character in us going up. If there’s someone out there then I’d definitely do it.”
