Leeds United: Adryan ‘under-estimated European football’

Yorkshire Evening Post 29/5/15
One of the men behind Adryan’s move to Leeds United has accused the Brazilian midfielder of under-estimating the challenge of English football.
Mauro Bousquet, an agent who helped to arrange Adryan’s complicated loan from Flamengo last summer, said the 20-year-old had left Brazil thinking he could “succeed easily” in Europe
Adryan made his first step into European football with a loan at Cagliari but he agreed to cut that deal short last August to take up a season-long deal at Elland Road.
The Brazilian Under-20 international was one of United’s marquee signings but he never gained a foothold in the club’s line-up and made just nine league starts, the last of them in December.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino had planned to sign Adryan permanently at the end of this season but the playmaker will not be returning to Yorkshire after failing to make a serious impression.
United, meanwhile, are currently under investigation by the Football Association amid suspicions that Adryan’s loan move breached rules on third-party ownership.
Bousquet told Tutto Mercato Web: “Certainly we expected more from the perspective of his mental adaptation to European football.
“He was a leader of youth teams in Brazil so perhaps he thought he would succeed easily in Italy and England.”
Bousquet said it was still possible that Adryan would return to a European club before the start of next season.
