Leeds United: Deal delay threatens Viviani move

Yorkshire Evening Post 1/8/14
Federico Viviani’s agent revealed today that the midfielder is re-examining the option of joining Italian club Latina amid growing frustration over the delay in finalising his move to Leeds United.
Giovanni Ferro said talks with Latina - a club where Viviani played on loan last season - had been scheduled for Monday after Leeds failed to provide the paperwork needed to seal his transfer to Elland Road.
Viviani and Leeds reached an agreement over the terms of a season-long loan from Roma at the start of this week but the 22-year-old’s camp - all of whom are back in Italy having travelled to England for talks - claim they are yet to receive documents allowing them to sign off the deal.
United owner Massimo Cellino stated on Monday that he and Viviani had resolved the issues which led Cellino to call the move off last Saturday, saying the Italy Under-21 international would join Leeds as originally planned.
Cellino has been abroad for the past fortnight, however, and Viviani’s representatives are in the dark about United’s intentions having expected the contract and other paperwork to be sent to them immediately after Monday’s negotiations.
A confused situation could yet be resolved with Cellino due back in England today and still expecting Viviani to sign for Leeds.
Ferro, who confirmed that agreements were in place with both Leeds and Roma, told the YEP: “We think we can’t wait so much time to have the contract. Federico is really considering (playing) again for Latina.”
Viviani spent the second half of last season on loan at Latina, an Italian Serie B side who finished third in the league.
Latina have been pursuing him again this summer but Viviani planned to take up Leeds’ offer and came to England on July 22, the day of United’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Mansfield Town.
Three days of talks followed but Viviani returned to Rome later that week with an agreement still be reached. A frustrated Cellino said Viviani was “out” but went back on that threat after further talks on Monday.
The latest twist comes just a week before the start of United’s Championship season. Alongside the chase of Viviani, the club are attempting to finalise a loan deal for Zan Benedicic, the 18-year-old Slovenian midfielder who plays for AC Milan.
