Single goal settles Hungarian meet...
FERENCVAROS 1 UNITED 0
United (first 60 minutes): Kenny, Thompson, Peltier, Pearce, Drury, Austin, Tonge, Murphy, McCormack, Varney, Smith.
United (final 30 minutes): Kenny, Thompson, Lees, Pugh, Warnock, Green, Norris, Brown, White, Poleon, Varney.
United boss Brian McDermott again swapped things around for the final game of the tour of Slovenia, although he is without the services of Noel Hunt, who was sidelined as a precaution.
The first half was the most competitive half of pre-season football so far, with both sides battling out a keenly contested 45 minutes.
A young Brazilian winger by the name of Somalia was a threat for the Hungarians, but United defended well and passed and moved well when in possession.
One such move led to Matt Smith lifting a chip just over the top, but it was Ross McCormack who came the closest to breaking the deadlock when he brought about a good save from a free-kick.
United could be pleased going into half-time, but right on the whistle Rudy Austin had a good penalty appeal waved away after a surging run forward.
United also started the second half well and after McCormack fired wide, Luke Murphy tried his luck with a shot which the keeper could only parry.
But it was Ferencvaros who stole the lead on 52 minutes following a shot on the turn just inside the box.
That was the cue for the only real spell of pressure from Ferencvaros, and Paddy Kenny was called upon to make a number of good saves during a 10-minute period.
The mass changes were made on 62 minutes, though, and almost immediately, David Norris fired over before Aidy White had a shot blocked.
White was also involved when Stephen Warnock felt he should have won a penalty after being barged over in the box.
That proved to be the last meaningful action as United were unfortunate to end up on the wrong end of a defeat.
Brian McDermott was far from happy with the Slovenian referee after seeing two clear-cut penalty appeals waved away as Leeds lost their final game in Slovenia 1-0 to Ferencvaros.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio after the game, McDermott said, "We have had a couple of penalty shouts and I hope the referee doesn`t referee in England anytime soon because they both looked like nailed on penalties to me."
At the end of the first half, Rodolph Austin was clearly fouled in the area but the appeals for a penalty were waved away.
Late in the game, Stephen Warnock was pushed in the penalty area and once again, the Leeds appeals were waved away. Warnock showed his own frustration moments later when he was shown his second yellow card in two games for a late tackle.
It seems even now, Leeds don`t get the rub of the green with European officials.
