Leeds United: Warnock decides not to make Whites axeing a union matter

STEPHEN WARNOCK’S representatives have clarified national reports suggesting the Leeds United defender has formally complained to the Professional Footballers’ Association after suddenly falling out of favour at the club.
The future of the 32-year-old had been cast into doubt amid reports he had contacted the PFA to express concerns about his treatment at the club after recently being dropped.
But Warnock’s agent, a member of the PFA’s Management Agency, confirmed the full-back had not complained to the players’ union, while revealing he and his client held a meeting with United owner Massimo Cellino earlier this week.
The meeting was regarding ‘football matters’, with Warnock disappointed at being dropped from the first team for the last two matches after arguably being the club’s stand-out outfield player so far in 2014-15.
Warnock found himself on the bench for the home game with Reading last Wednesday, with centre-back Liam Cooper prefered at left-back.
Gaetano Berardi, a recognised right-back, started Saturday’s derby encounter with Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, with Warnock again an unused substitute.
Warnock was told in the summer that he could leave if he found another club, but started the season in the side under David Hockaday and enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign with United.
The former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender and one-time England international, one of the higher earners at the club, is contracted at Elland Road until next June.
