Gianfranco Zola and Paolo Di Canio look unlikely to emerge as managerial options for Leeds United after their respective agents confirmed last night that neither man has received any contact about the vacancy at Elland Road.
Di Canio, who is out of work after leaving Sunderland last year, has featured in the betting markets since the departure of Brian McDermott from Leeds but is yet to be approached by the club’s owner, Massimo Cellino.
Zola - the ex Watford boss - was also seen as a possible contender for the job at Elland Road having played under Cellino for the 57-year-old’s Italian club Cagliari.
Cellino planned to meet a series of candidates for the position of head coach this week after United and McDermott parted company by mutual consent last Friday.
Phil Spencer, Di Canio’s representative, told the YEP: “It’s silly to speculate and we’re being asked every day about this club and that club. Every club knows where we are but I haven’t been approached by Leeds.”
Zola’s agent, Fulvio Marrucco, said: “Zola never has been approached (by) Leeds United.”
